Gasthof Bergfried, Hallstatt

While staying in Hallstatt, our rental two bedroom apartment (apartment #1) had a partial view of the lake and a full view of the mountain. The location was quiet, parking was free, and both the Salt Mine cable cars and supermarket were within walking distance. There is WiFi in the building yet we were told it is very unreliable for our unit when we checked in. There was no mention of this online and, for most of our stay, we had to go down to the common area for internet reception. There is a sauna but there is a charge of 6 euros to use it which also was not highlighted online either. Communication with the staff at the hotel and grocery store was a challenge as few were able to converse in English. They hotel provides a discount card that offers a 30 percent discount for the Salt Mine and other attractions.

The actual apartment was bright, colourful, and very spacious. There is a tiny dishwasher, a toaster, stove top, and small fridge. The large balcony could be accessed by both the the master bedroom and the dining/living room. There was a skylight in spare bedroom that provided a view the mountains during the day and the stars at night. The shower was slippery and there was a significant step down get out. A thick rubber mat would be helpful to minimize slips. We were able to get some English speaking stations on the TV. The dining room/living room was quite large and bright. The master bed was fairly comfortable yet the pillows were very flat (even when doubled up).

We spent three days in Hallstatt and found it to be a very tranquil setting. While the apartment was a little expensive, it was more reasonable that most rental properties in the area. The central location, cleanliness, parking,  spacious living and stunning views made for a very memorable stay.

Happy travels, J&B
